Interphase and Continuous Computing Demonstrate Advanced Wireless Applications on AdvancedTCA Platform

Pre-integrated Trillium®+plus SS7 Signaling Demonstration at SUPERCOMM 2005

PLANO, TX
June 2, 2005

Interphase Corporation® (NASDAQ: INPH), an international supplier of next-generation networking technologies, today announced a live demonstration at SUPERCOMM 2005 featuring the Interphase iSPAN® 4539F PMC T1/E1/J1 controller and iWARE® SS7 software in Continuous Computing’s Trillium®+plus ISUP Network Service-Ready Platform™. Trillium+plus ISUP is a pre-integrated signaling solution that enables rapid SS7 deployments in both AdvancedTCA® and CompactPCI® platforms. The demonstration will be hosted by Interphase in the PICMG pavilion (booth #43085CC) and by Continuous Computing (booth #32076) at SUPERCOMM 2005 in Chicago, Illinois from June 7-9.

Interphase and Continuous Computing have developed solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) to significantly reduce costs and development cycles required to integrate system components. The highly scalable Interphase iSPAN 4539F line card, which supports from two to 128 links in PMC or PCI form factors with rear and front access options, is an integral component of Continuous Computing’s Trillium+plus demonstration. In addition to the line card, the Trillium+plus ISUP signaling solution is comprised of high-performance Trillium ISDN User Part (ISUP) binary code and integrated management software.

The demonstration at SUPERCOMM highlights two innovative features for mobile service providers. The Custom Ringback Tones service lets mobile subscribers replace the typical “ring” or “busy” tones an incoming caller hears when they dial a subscriber’s number with a variety of music, such as the latest Top-40 song or a classic Frank Sinatra tune. The Missed Call Alerting application records all unsuccessful incoming calls when mobile users are outside the coverage area or a subscriber’s phone is turned off. Once the phone is re-connected to the network, the application delivers a call summary via Short Message Service (SMS), providing the subscriber with caller information for missed calls such as call time, calling party name and calling party’s phone number.

“Interphase and Continuous Computing share a commitment to supplying telecom equipment providers with cost-effective solutions and a faster time to market,” said Linsey Miller, Director of Business Development at Interphase Corporation. “This demonstration symbolizes our partnership with Continuous Computing to enable the delivery of highly integrated, development-ready platform solutions to our TEM customer base for the rapid deployment of advanced wireline and mobile infrastructure solutions and applications.”

“We are pleased to showcase the Interphase iSPAN 4539F SS7 line card and software in the Trillium+plus demonstration at SUPERCOMM, which illustrates how Continuous Computing enables TEMs to simplify and accelerate the deployment of SS7 network nodes,” said Steve Kimball, Director of Business Development for Continuous Computing’s Trillium business unit. “As one of our strategic partners, Interphase shares a mutual goal of delivering pre-integrated solutions to TEMs for accelerating time to market and reducing total life cycle costs.”

The Trillium+plus pre-integrated SS7 signaling solution demonstration will be on display at SUPERCOMM, June 7-9, in Chicago, Illinois, in booth #43085CC and #32076.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.

Sun Server Sets New Performance Record on Manugistics Benchmark

Results Showcase Sun Fire E20K Server and Solaris 10 Speed, Consolidation and Price/Performance Leadership

SANTA CLARA, Calif
May 31 , 2005

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced that Sun’s Enterprise class UltraSPARC(R) IV-based Sun Fire E20K system running Solaris 10 Operating System (OS) has set a new Manugistics Fulfillment v7.1 benchmark world record. Sun demonstrates industry-leading performance and price/performance on the 36-way Sun Fire E20K server (1) by beating IBM’s newest 32-way Power5 server, the IBM P5-590 by 23 percent, with a 45 percent price/performance advantage based on hardware category pricing.

Many of the world’s largest retailers use Manugistics solutions to reduce costs and improve customer service by replenishment planning at the store level. The Manugistics applications are built on open standards and architected to the Java2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The Manugistics NetWORKS Fulfillment 7.1 benchmark measures throughput results for real world complex retail supply chain management systems and workloads. These results demonstrate Sun’s ability to run complex workloads efficiently and effectively, and also showcase Sun’s chip multithreading innovation with the 1.35 GHz UltraSPARC IV processors running 10 percent faster than IBM’s 1.65 GHz POWER5 processors.

In order to achieve this record, both database and application servers were on a single system, demonstrating the server consolidation capabilities of Sun Fire servers. In addition, the superior batch processing capability of the Sun Fire E20K server that balances I/O, memory, and CPU processing power, as well as its ability to scale near linearly as processor are added, played an instrumental role in delivering unbeatable performance on real world supply chain workloads. The performance of the 36-way Sun Fire E20K server was 3 times faster than the 12-way Sun Fire E4900 server on the same size workload (with a third of the processors).

Sun Provides Free Service Plan Updates to Customers Through SunSpectrum Program

New Services Add Value to Sun’s Top-Rated Support Offerings – Independent Study Cites ROI Savings Up to 67%; Reduces Cost of Support, Improves System Availability and Increases System Administrator Productivity

HOPKINTON, Mass. and SANTA CLARA, Calif.
June 23, 2005

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) today announced that it has made new services available to tens of thousands of Sun customers with SunSpectrum Service Plan coverage. SunSpectrum Service Plans, Sun’s most popular product support offerings, provide integrated hardware and Solaris Operating System support for Sun servers and workstations. Many of the service enhancements utilize Sun Connection, an integrated, secure services connection that links customers, partners, developers and Sun in a dynamic and collaborative network-based community.

“We see a real opportunity within the market to provide unparalleled value to customers through a series of compelling enhancements to our customers’ coverage,” said Don Grantham, executive vice president of Services at Sun Microsystems. “The industry has forgotten what good customer support is all about. Too many vendors are pushing end-to-end outsourcing or undertaking cost-cutting measures that alienate their customers. Sun’s approach is different — we offer choice without hidden agendas and we strive to put our customers first. This guiding approach has served us well over the years and with the strength of our new product line, we will continue to raise the bar on customer support.”

New Services in SunSpectrum Service Plan

Sun’s new services, which are immediately available at no additional cost to customers with SunSpectrum Service Plan coverage, include:

  • SunSpectrum eLearning Library: An online library of technical training modules available at no additional cost. The initial set of modules focuses on the Solaris Operating System and includes new courseware for Solaris 10.
  • Sun Update Connection: The first service available through Sun Connection, Sun Update Connection helps customers keep their Sun systems up-to-date and secure with automatic notification of Solaris Operating System updates, advanced analysis capabilities and multi-system remote update management. A preview release of Sun Update Connection is scheduled to be available by the end of the quarter.
  • One-Stop Interoperability Assistance: Sun is formally expanding its interoperability support through a broader network of participating vendors and the inclusion of joint support centers that Sun now operates with Oracle, SAP and VERITAS.
  • System Health Check Subscription: Systems with SunSpectrum Platinum Service Plan coverage are now entitled to receive Sun’s on-demand configuration assessment service, Sun System Analysis. This service helps companies proactively manage mission-critical systems.

The new Sun Spectrum services are a result of customer requests to provide a holistic solution to bring value to their business. To quantify these offerings, Sun Services engaged leading third party research companies to better understand customer perception and potential value.

Quantifying the Value of Support

Sun enlisted Forrester Research’s TEI Consulting Team to investigate the Sun Spectrum Service Plan for customers. Forrester examined the total economic impact and return on investment of SunSpectrum services in a study published in April 2005.

The Forrester study, commissioned by Sun, yielded key findings, including: lower total cost of support, improved systems availability and improved system administrator productivity with SunSpectrum service as compared to a break/fix environment. Forrester interviewed current international and national SunSpectrum service customers in financial services, telecommunications and publishing industries and through a Total Economic Impact framework developed a composite organization. The estimate risk-adjusted ROI for this composite company was 67% with a break-even point (payback period) within 12 months.

Sun also commissioned TNS Prognostics in June 2004 to gauge customer value. TNS Prognostics asked companies to rate the product support offerings of top IT vendors. Sun’s Service Plans prevailed and were ranked number one in customer value, beating Dell and IBM.

Grantham concluded, “Our best just got better with the new SunSpectrum services. Sun is building on a position of strength with top-rated support offerings, strong ROI and validation from leading industry analysts. Moving forward, as we engage with new customers, we tell them to expect the best from Sun Services.”

SUNNYVALE, Calif.
May 24 , 2005

Fujitsu Computer Systems today expanded its mobile product portfolio announcing the new LifeBook® B6000 Series of light and powerfully equipped ultra-portable touch screen notebooks ideally designed for healthcare, field-force automation and other fast-paced, forms-intensive workplaces. Featuring a larger, 50% brighter screen and exceptionally long battery life, the 3.3 pound LifeBook B6000 notebook, powered by the Intel® Pentium® M ULV 753 processor with enhanced SpeedStep® technology delivers the flexibility of a touch screen and the productivity of a notebook for maximum efficiency.

Equipped with a 12.1-inch XGA touch screen display, the LifeBook B6000 notebook, which replaces the LifeBook B3000 notebook, makes it remarkably easy to navigate swiftly through special purpose, project-based, forms-based or menu-driven applications with a stylus or fingertip. Up to six hours of extended battery life ensures work is not interrupted, and a built-in microphone enables convenient dictation.

“We needed a mobile computing solution that would give our nurses real time access to patient clinical information and allow them to provide the highest level of care to patients in their homes,”
says Richard Younker, director of information services at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System’s Home Care Network, which conducted more than 567,000 home health visits last year. “The LifeBook B Series, with its long battery life, large screen and light weight, enables us to provide care faster and more efficiently than ever before.”

With security top of mind in Fujitsu mobile product design, the LifeBook B6000 notebook features a multitude of security capabilities to keep confidential data protected. Dell’Oro Group Names Fujitsu a Top Vendor in Worldwide Metro DWDM Sales with 18.1 Percent Share

Fujitsu Revenue Grows 189 Percent from Same Period One Year Ago

Richardson, TX
May 23 , 2005

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, announced today that Dell’Oro Group has named Fujitsu a top vendor in worldwide metro Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment with an 18.1 percent share of the $270M 1Q05 market. Dell’Oro Group estimates that this optical transport equipment market has grown by 56 percent over the same period one year ago (1Q04) and also estimates that Fujitsu metro WDM revenue has grown by 189 percent in this same timeframe.

In a recent Press Releases, Jimmy Yu, senior analyst for optical transport research at Dell’Oro Group stated that “Telecom service providers have stepped up deployments of DWDM metro. Until recently, DWDM metro growth was driven by enterprises’ need for data recovery—now we’re seeing growth driven by telecom service providers’ need for capacity. We believe that service providers are installing DWDM metro equipment ahead of perceived bandwidth demand on their metro network.”

The Dell’Oro Group Optical Transport Quarterly Report offers complete, in-depth coverage of the market with tables covering manufacturers’ revenue, average selling prices, unit shipments tributary/ line or wavelength shipments (by speed OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16, OC-192/STM-64, OC-768/STM-256, and other). The report tracks DWDM long haul terrestrial, DWDM metro, SONET/SDH Add/Drop Multiplexing (ADM), SONET/SDH multiservice, and optical switch equipment.

“We achieved our phenomenal growth in the metro DWDM market because Fujitsu is working closely with our many telecom carrier, Multiple System Operator (MSO) and wireless customers to thoroughly understand and support their varied service and network initiatives,” said Bill Erickson, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. “The breadth of our metro DWDM portfolio, which consists of the market-leading FLASHWAVE® 7500 Re-configurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM), the FLASHWAVE 7420 wavelength service platform, and the Netstender™ optical extension system, gives us a solution for any metro DWDM need, regardless of price, architecture, or capacity required. Plus, each of these products is backed by the proven sales and support infrastructure of Fujitsu, a trusted supplier and market leader for over 20 years.”
