Sun Microsystems Demonstrates Commitment to Sharing With Launch of New Branding and Advertising

New Campaign Highlights How Sharing Creates Opportunities for Businesses to Thrive

SANTA CLARA, Calif.
June 1, 2005

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) today unveiled its new branding campaign and related advertising that clearly demonstrates the company’s commitment to the concept of sharing, a core value across the organization since its inception. The campaign presents the power of sharing and collaboration in action, featuring Sun customers and illustrating the solutions the companies created together.

“The technology to connect communities and fuel collaboration creates economic and social growth. Inventing and sharing those technologies, has been the core tenet of Sun’s business since its inception,” said Ingrid Van den Hoogen, vice president of brand and global communications. “This campaign demonstrates the power of sharing and delivers the clear message known by Sun’s employees, customers and partners for years – sharing grows markets and market growth benefits everyone.”

Sun began introducing the branding campaign in May through a series of outdoor teaser ads in New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Boston. An innovative micro-size placement followed in the Wall Street Journal’s Marketplace section and will run twice-weekly for the next year. Beginning today, print ads will run in major publications nationwide including the San Jose Mercury News, Financial Times, Forbes, Information Week, eWeek, and many others. The campaign also includes cutting edge online components ranging from RSS feeds and blog placements, to tradition online marketing including banners and other placements on CNET, Forbes.com, WSJ.com, Yahoo!, BusinessWeek.com and the New York Times online. Ads can be viewed at http://www.sun.com/share.
